Description
Over the years this fish has become popular although it does not grow very big. It is an active little fish in and around rocky shorelines, in white turbulent water, and off beaches where the water is foamy. It moves in and out of the tidal zone with the tides
The Blacktail feeds naturally on seaweeds, redbait pods, sealice and mussel, however it will take almost any bait like sardine fillet, prawn, squid and redbait being one of its favourites. Unlike most other species, the Blacktail is not particularly sensitive to temperature change
Typical Bite
The bite can vary depending on where you are fishing, however, the bite will be felt as a series of sharp but distinctive tugs, and as it seldom pulls, you will need to strike after a few good tugs

- Adjust the sinker length for the conditions your are fishing in
- Blacktail can be successfully used as livebait for Kob and Garrick
- A few good sized Blacktail provide a very tasty meal
- Always sharpen your hooks and ensure the hook point is exposed when baited
